It could cost anywhere from $29,500 to over $4 million to open up a section of Coker Road again.

A 350 meter section of the road was closed back in November because the shoulders began to collapse because of last years high water.

Mayor Andrew Poirier says there is a big gap in the costs, but council needs to make the right decision.

“If it’s going to result in closures after closures after closures, we’re kicking the can down the road,” Poirier told city council at a special meeting to go through a report submitted by Stantec.

“It will just cost more and more later on to fix it, and this is the problem we’re in.”

Director of Infrastructure and Engineering Greg Breen says if the city goes with the cheapest option, it could still result in the closure of the road a couple of times a year.

“I mean it could vary year to year. I think based on how drastic water level changes are, there are going to be years where it will be less and years its going to be more.”

There are also three options to re-route that section of road costing anywhere from almost $1.2 million to $4.2 million.

A full report will coming before council’s Committee of the Whole meeting next week.
