Two area lakes have tested positive for blue green algae according to the Thunder Bay District Health Unit.

Water samples were taken from Trout Lake and Icarus Lake on June 30th and July 2nd respectively.

Humans and animals should avoid swimming in, touching, ingesting and breathing near the water.

More specifically, near the the blooms which can form on the surface, which contain microscopic organisms which are harmful to your health.

Contact can result in a serious reaction, with symptoms including diarrhea, vomiting, irritation to your skin, eye or throat, and breathing difficulties.

Residents and visitors should avoid any water source while the algae is present, and for about two weeks after it dissipates.
