Cocaine trafficking investigation leads to arrest of 28-year-old

Police have arrested a 28-year-old after a cocaine trafficking investigation in the region.

The arrest was made on July 1 in Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug First Nation, otherwise known as Big Trout Lake, after officers received information about an individual trafficking illicit substances into the community from Thunder Bay by plane.

The OPP’s investigation led to a warrant being executed on Cromarty Drive in the community and seized property includes:

– Prohibited alcohol,
– Suspected cocaine,
– A firearm and ammunition
– Cell phones,
– Laptops,
– An undisclosed amount of Canadian currency,
– An ATM machine,

The 28-year-old of Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug is now facing charges of:

– Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine,
– Careless Storage and a Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition x2,
– Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm,

The accused has been remanded into custody following a bail hearing, and the OPP says their investigation remains ongoing at this time.
