Halifax is going to get spruced up this week with the Halifax Mural Fest in full swing.  It kicked off July 3 and continues until Sunday, July 9.

It’s a community-based art event that takes place on Quinpool Rd and the surrounding area.

Founder and owner of mural company, Trackside Studios, Michael Burt told Huddle, the festival is growing after a 2022’s success.

“We did really well with painting walls last year, that’s kind of my forte. This year I partnered with some businesses and organizations for the event stuff. We have Unity Charity throwing our closing party and our opening party is being thrown by Red Bull and Pro Skates down at the Commons Skate Park.”

He says it’s a chance for artist to showcase their own designs and hopefully land some work.

Halifax-based artist, John McPartland says he will be putting a mural on an elementary school.

“It’s a very old school and needs a paint job. The kids are going to love it and the parents are going to be happy that it looks nicer than when they left it at the end of the school year. There’s a lot around it to be excited about.”

The festival allows artists to connect with one another and work on their skills.

McPartland says there’s lots to be excited about and that the aim among artists, is to leave Halifax a little prettier.
