Allain has no regrets, ponders political future

Former provincial cabinet minister Daniel Allain says he has no regrets on taking a stand against government over its recent changes to Policy 713.

The Progressive Conservative MLA for Moncton East describes himself as being fiscally conservative but progressive on social issues.

“That’s why I’m fighting for minorities. I’m fighting for the person that needs that help. So for myself, my conscience is very clear in my heart. I know I made the right decision,” noted Allain.

Right now, Allain says the Progressive Conservative Party in New Brunswick is in a crisis and needs to figure out its values and principles.

“We had a big tent party approach where we accepted a lot of people. The tent is getting smaller and smaller. So we some have tough questions we have to ask ourselves.”

Allain said he is proud of the work he and his team did in his role as minister of local government and local governance reform over the last three years.

Sweeping changes were made provincewide to reduce the number of municipalities and to ensure all residents had local government representation.
