Lunenburg Yacht Club’s General Manager, Gale Fullerton, has officially declared her candidacy for the position of Mayor of Lunenburg in the upcoming special election scheduled for August 12. Fullerton’s announcement, shared through a press release, emphasizes her commitment to responsive leadership and effective communication to shape a prosperous future for the Town of Lunenburg.

Fullerton’s decision makes her the second potential candidate to enter the race. The first contender, Jamie Myra, currently on temporary leave as President of the Lunenburg Board of Trade, had previously expressed their intent to run. However, Councillor Ed Halverson, who initially announced his candidacy, withdrew from the race on June 23 due to personal time constraints.

As the nomination period to officially run for Mayor approaches, aspiring candidates have until July 10-13 to submit their nomination forms to the Town. Those interested in participating can find more information on the Town’s Information for Candidates page.

Gale Fullerton, in her complete announcement, highlighted her extensive experience working with provincial government bodies, not-for-profit organizations, and charities, both in paid and volunteer capacities. She possesses relevant skills in communication, customer service, operations and human resources management, as well as policy development and governance.

Fullerton indicated she has a profound appreciation for the town’s heritage. Having spent childhood summers in Lunenburg, completed her fifth-grade education at Lunenburg Academy, and frequently visited as an adult, she made the decision to return and establish her permanent residence in the town in 2018.

As the special election approaches, Lunenburg residents will have the opportunity to evaluate the candidates and make an informed choice for the future of their beloved town.
