Federal government fast-tracking immigration with new system targeting skilled workers

The federal government is working on doubling the amount of health-care workers in Canada with a fast-tracking, immigration program.

The Federal Express Entry Program is expected to streamline a pathway for those who work in health, STEM fields, agriculture, transportation and skilled trades with experience either in Canada or abroad.

Minister Sean Fraser says as of today, 500 skilled health care workers can apply to immigrate to Canada.

“Between 2017 and 2022 we’ve welcome over 21,000 healthcare workers to Canada… but we can do more… and with this new tool, we are going to do more,” Fraser said.

Fifteen hundred more workers in the other sectors will be invited to apply by July 5.

There are four steps in the process.  You find out if you are eligible to apply by answering some questions on the government’s website, then you check you’re score. If you are eligible and want to fill out a profile, get your documents ready. You’ll then get an invitation and apply.
