Do you get a restful sleep every night?

According to a survey, from Narrative Research, only 16% of us sleep well every night, while for the average Canadian, good sleep only comes about four nights a week, with women even less likely than men to get the rest needed.

About 32% of Canadians are getting three nights a week or less of sleep, with sleep patterns worse now than three years ago. However, just over half of Canadians say their sleep patterns haven’t changed.

The 24-hour Movement Guidelines for Canada says we need 7 to 9 hours every night. According to Stats Canada, if we don’t get the rest we need, it can not only make us irritable, might cause a slew of health problems including higher rates of cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, mental and cognitive disorders, accidents and injuries.

Canadians are making an effort to get more rest, with 2 in 10 saying they have taken prescription medication, with 4 in 10 having taken over the counter sleep medication.
