Students in Pictou County are getting some much-needed attention from the provincial government.
Minister Becky Druhan announced a new school is coming to Trenton for pre-primary to Grade 8 students.
It will replace Trenton elementary and Trenton Middle School and will serve 280 students from the community. It is part of the province’s five-year capital plan.
The province will hold community consultation on the consolidation of the two schools before the site selection process begins. The site selection process is outlined in the Governor in Council Education Act Regulations, which say existing school sites are considered first.
The Department of Public Works will issue a tender for the design of the replacement school once the site selection process has been completed and approved.
They say there will be community input into design elements of the new school.
Construction of the new school is expected to be finished by September 2027.
