‘Historic’ National Indigenous Peoples Day

It’s National Indigenous Peoples Day and ceremonies are talking place across the country

Indigenous Services Minister Patty Hajdu says she looks at the day as two fold and hopes Canadians specifically non Indigenous Canadians take time to reflect on both the negative and the positive.

“The work that we have done and have to do on reconciliation but also to celebrate Indigenous cultures and languages, and certainly Indigenous leaders all across the country.”

Hajdu is spending the day in Ottawa for a very special event, along side her colleague Minister of Crown – Indigenous Relations Marc Miller for a very special unveiling.

That of the action plan on implementing the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act.

“That will be about the next steps that our government will take to embed reconciliation in every file across the government, and we still have a lot to do in that space.”

This year marks the 28th National Indigenous Peoples Day.
