Residents and organizations who have gone the extra mile were recognized by the City of Saint John this week.

Eight certificates were handed out during the annual Civic Recognition Awards on Monday night.

“We are so proud of the hard work of these recipients and their passion to create change in their home city is inspiring to witness,” Mayor Donna Reardon said in a news release.

Three organizations were named Citizens of the Year: 100 Women Who Care of Greater Saint John, Sistema NB Saint John Centre, and the Human Development Council.

There were also five council commendations handed out to Mary LeSage, Herb Doughty, Dr. Mike Simon, Gary Brown Sr., and Rev. Jasmine Chandra.

“The Civic Awards are an important opportunity to celebrate and say thank you to those individuals and organizations who have gone the extra mile to make Saint John a more vibrant and welcoming community for everyone,” said Reardon.
