A few items on the agenda for tonight’s city council meeting including cost increases for the revitalization of the downtown Fort William area.

The cost to demolish Victoriaville Mall, and reconstruct Victoria Avenue is going up.

Council is expected to hear a deputation Monday evening that will see the budget for the project increase to 17 million dollars based off of design.

So far $6.3 million has been secured, as well there is $10.7 million forecast in the 2024-2025 capital budget.

However costs will be offset by grant funding received.

So far an application into FedNor and the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation is seeking a combined $2.5 million.

As well a tender recommendation will be before council, valued at $1.4 million for work at the Fort William Gardens.

The work includes lower roof replacement and insulation enhancement, replacement of original doors and windows, cladding and insulating the upper walls and painting and repair of some interior ceilings.

Some aspects of the project will address issues seen in parts of the building with moisture and air infiltration.

Two bids came in for the project with staff recommending D-R-D Construction Services Incorporated receiving the contract.

Tonight’s meeting kicks off at 6:30 p.m.
