Adoptable animals to be featured in unique fundraiser

What is better than a fashion show featuring human models and adoptable animals?

An uptown Saint John clothing boutique is raising money for the Saint John SPCA Animal Rescue.

Dominique Leger, who owns In Pursuit, said human models will walk the runway alongside animals up for adoption.

“It’s a great way to interact with the animals that are available for adoption and learn a little bit more about their personalities and actually see them as they interact with humans and other animals,” Leger said in an interview.

The fashion show, called In Purrrsuit of Fashion, is one of the ways Leger and her business are trying to do more community-involved events.

Leger had originally asked the SPCA to bring in some of their animals available for adoption for a pop-up event at her King Street store.

“That idea evolved when one of our regular customers, who is also a board member of the SPCA, pitched a fashion show event,” she said.

Leger said the fashion show is a chance to showcase some of their fashions while helping animals in need.

Joan Richardson, shelter manager at the Saint John SPCA Animal Rescue, said they are excited to partner with In Pursuit for this event.

“The event is geared to be relaxed so our animals, even the shy ones, will feel comfortable as they walk the runway,” said Richardson.

Leger said she believes this fashion show is the first-of-its-kind event to be held in our region.

“I really have no idea of what exactly is going to happen,” Leger said with a laugh. “Humans are unpredictable but animals are definitely unpredictable.

The event will take place on Sunday, June 25, at 20 King Street in Saint John.

Tickets are limited and can be purchased in advance for $25. You can buy them online on the In Pursuit website or in person at In Pursuit or the SPCA.

All proceeds from ticket sales will directly benefit the Saint John SPCA’s ongoing efforts to rescue, rehabilitate, and find loving homes for animals in need.
