Free Father’s Day fishing this weekend

By Ryan Forbes Jun 16, 2023 | 5:00 AM

To celebrate Father’s Day, the Ontario government is offering free fishing for all residents over the weekend.

Throughout June 17 and 18, you do not need a fishing licence but you do still need to follow Conservation Catch Limits and carry identification from the provincial or federal government, showing your name and date of birth.

Ontario offers free fishing four times a year – including days for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Family Day and Family Fishing Week.

Outside of these free times, Canadians 18 and older but under the age of 65 must have an Outdoors Card and a fishing licence to fish in Ontario. Veterans and active Canadian Armed Forces members can also enjoy free fishing any time of the year.
