The mayor of Mississauga has made it official.

Bonnie Crombie is entering the race to become the next leader of the provincial Liberal Party.

Crombie says she wants to renew, rebuild and re-energize the party that failed to gain official party status in last year’s provincial election.

“Liberals have been knocked down before, but we dusted ourselves off, and got back into the fight. And I’m ready to fight. Together we can stop Ford and bring honest, ethical, and dedicated government back to the people of this province,” says Crombie.

She is the fourth candidate to enter the race.

MPs Nathaniel Erskine-Smith and Yasir Naqvi, and MPP Ted Hsu are also vying for the position.

Liberals will cast votes in a ranked ballot for a new leader on November 25 and 26 with the results to be known on December 2.

The deadline for candidates to enter is September 5.
