The Lake of the Woods District Hospital is working to lessen waiting times in the Emergency Room.

Kenora’s hospital has launched a new service to help patients receive service and lower waiting times in the Emergency Room.

The Lake of the Woods District Hospital has unveiled the new LWDH Nurse Practitioner Fast Track Clinic, which will assess and treat patients in the Emergency Department with urgent, but not immediate, medical situations.

Vice-President of Patient Care and Chief Nursing Officer, Kaye Balajadia, explains when patients arrive in the Emergency Department, they will be triaged in the main Emergency Room and assigned a level of acuity – and those less acute will be sent to the new clinic in ER South.

“The Fast Track Clinic represents the LWDH’s commitment to delivering patient-centred care, while efficiently managing increasing volumes and wait times. By investing in this innovative solution, we can enhance the patient experience and ensure that everyone receives the care they deserve.”

President and CEO of the hospital, Ray Racette, says the new clinic is a strong sign of progress as the organization continues to navigate ongoing staffing shortages in the Emergency Department.

“As the hospital continues to prioritize patient well-being and adapt to changing demands, the Fast Track Clinic stands as a sign of progress, offering an efficient and effective pathway for patients seeking non-emergency care.”

The Fast Track clinic will operate 12 to 8 p.m. seven days a week and includes a Nurse practitioner, Nurse and a Clerk.
