Donald Trump is set to become the first former president to face a judge on federal charges.

He is accused of storing sensitive documents at his Mar-A-Lago resort that if exposed could have threatened the safety of Americans at home and abroad. The documents are said to include nuclear information, defense and weapons specifics of the U.S. and foreign governments, and a so-called Pentagon “attack plan”. The documents were allegedly stored in a ballroom, bedroom, bathroom, and shower.

Trump faces 37 charges.

Security personnel are concerned about protests in downtown Miami, where the proceedings are taking place. Officials are estimating that anywhere from a couple hundred to 50,000 people could descend on the downtown core to protest.

Previous protests over Trump’s legal proceedings have turned violent, including the infamous January 6 riots that resulted in five deaths.

We will be covering the indictment hearings and will provide updates on any breaking news that follows.
