Theft suspect caught after police pursuit

Police are thanking the public for a tip that led to the arrest of an alleged ‘habitual’ property crime offender.

The OPP says on June 3, officers received a complaint about a theft in the Rainy River district and a description of the suspect was provided.

Officers responded to the area and spent a considerable amount of time trying to locate the suspect. While initially unsuccessful, officers were alerted to the suspect who was trespassing in a rural cottage area by a nearby resident.

Officers caught up to the suspect and they were arrested following a brief foot pursuit, and further investigation resulted in the recovery of various stolen property.

A 44-year-old woman from Rainy River is charged with:

– Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
– Failing to comply with a Probation order,

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Rainy River court on July 27.

The OPP is reminding the public to always report suspicious activity to police at 1-888-310-1122, or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
