New Brunswickers looking to join the RCMP could now be guaranteed a posting in the province.

Mounties in the province are now offering what is known as “pre-posting agreements.”

Const. Martine Losier-Roy is a recruiting officer with the New Brunswick RCMP.

She said the goal is to bring people back to the province after their training to fill front-line vacancies.

“The RCMP is a big organization and there’s always people coming and going so we need to fill all of the vacancies that we can,” Losier-Roy said in an interview.

After graduation from the RCMP Depot Academy in Regina, most new members are relocated to remote parts of Canada.

But applicants who sign a pre-posting agreement can rest assured they will be able to work in New Brunswick.

“This agreement can help those that have always wanted to join the RCMP, but have been held back due to mobility restrictions,” said a posting on the RCMP’s website.

Losier-Roy said other provinces have done similar initiatives and she anticipates others may do the same in the future.

Applicants will still need to meet the minimum requirements and successfully complete the six-month training course at Depot Academy.

Pre-posting agreements cannot be guaranteed to every applicant and will be based on the operational needs of the province.

“We can’t guarantee where in the province the applicants will be able to go,” said Losier-Roy. “However, if they do get a pre-posting agreement signed before they go to Regina, they will be guaranteed to come back here at home.”
