Fisheries officers helped save a pod of 15 pilot whales in Cape Breton on Monday.

Staff from the Department of Fisheries were able to rescue them after a weekend of ups and downs.

Reports suggest up to 14 whales were beached on Sunday in Port Hood.

About 50 people showed up after a group of teens spotted the whales.

They were able to save three of them but 11 passed away.

We will have more on this story as more information becomes available.
