Residents are invited to come out for a Pride event being held by the Dryden Native Friendship Centre.

Organizer Tiffany Thompson is hoping for a large turnout to support the community as it can go a long way for many, noting the imbalance between larger centres and smaller communities.

“There is a lot less available here in Dryden, so just showing support for those people for being who they are, promoting acceptance to the 2SLGBTQIA+ community in general is just really important.”

Last years event, according to Thompson, was very successful and despite a couple of hiccups seen recently with Pride targeted by hate groups across North America, and while there is concern she is optimistic for sunshine, good times and no incidents.

“There is always a concern for negativity, homophobia, transphobia…its definitely out there. You see it in the news both here in Canada, but really a lot in the United States as well. There’s been a couple of negative posts on Facebook about my event but nothing extreme.”

A barbecue, live music, a drag show and two spirit Elder speaker Ma-Nee are just some of the many activities taking place along with a few giveaways.

Everything kicks off at 10:30 a.m. in the parking lot of the Friendship Centre.
