A few new forest fires have been confirmed in northwestern Ontario.

Sioux Lookout Fire #22 was found west of the Pipestone River Provincial Park last night, roughly 90 km north of Pickle Lake. The 3-hectare fire is not under control at this time.

Red Lake Fire #24 was found about 16 km away from Trout Lake yesterday, at only 0.1 hectares. The fire is considered not yet under control.

The Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services branch of the Ministry of Natural Resources says crews are still fighting Sioux Lookout Fire #7 north of Cat Lake First Nation, which has grown to 9,285 hectares and remains not under control.

Overall, the region has 24 active forest fires with a high to extreme forest fire hazard, with an area of low to moderate hazard northward from Red Lake along the Manitoba border.

Northwestern Ontario’s Restricted Fire Zone remains in place.
