The Sioux Lookout District continues to be a hotspot for fires according to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry.

So far there have been 21 fires in that district alone this year, including one which continues to burn near the Cat Lake First Nation.

That fire, Sioux Lookout 7, has been mapped at just under 9300 hectares and its located just north of the community.

8 fire crews and 3 helicopters have been assigned to that fire, with crews consolidating hose lines along the southern portion of the fire.

There are 23 active fires are now burning across Northwestern Ontario.

8 are considered out of control, 7 under control, 2 are being held while a further 6 are being observed.

Fortunately three fires have been declared out by the MNRF.

The fire hazard in the region is predominantly moderate to high, with a patch of low hazard along the Manitoba border.

As a result a Restricted Fire Zone remains in effect.
