Destination Cape Breton launches new waterfall hike series

By Caitlin Snow Jun 7, 2023 | 3:07 PM

Destination Cape Breton is eager to get hikers back in the woods.

They are launching a new waterfall hike series, ‘Back to the Woods’ over the next three weekends in June. The series is part of the Island’s Waterfall Season.

“We are very concerned that visitors may have the impression that it is not safe to travel to Cape Breton Island at this time,” said Terry Smith, CEO of Destination Cape Breton. “Back to the Woods will celebrate that it is safe, while communicating that our tourism industry is open and ready to welcome visitors!”

It will feature two waterfalls each Saturday and coming along for the ride will be local and regional social media influencers and ambassadors.

  • Saturday, June 10 – Egypt Falls (morning) and Gairloch Falls (afternoon)
  • Saturday, June 17 – MacIntosh Brook Falls (morning) and Corney Brook Falls (afternoon)
  • Saturday, June 24 – Embree’s Brook Falls (morning) and Humes River Falls (afternoon)

It’s to celebrate getting back on the trails after the lifting of the ban due to the wildfires.

“Our hearts go out to those in our province who are and will continue to be affected for some time to come from the wildfires. At the same time, we recognize that our tourism industry needs help to recover from the many blows suffered over the past few years,” said Smith. “We encourage people to join in the Back to the Woods series to celebrate our beautiful outdoors while providing much needed support to our tourism operators.”

Groups will gather for lunch in between hikes and refreshments at the end of the day. They will also have suggestions for accommodations and dining.

Participants can also participate in the Waterfall Season Contest, by visiting three or more of our featured waterfalls, and win an amazing Cape Breton Adventure Weekend for two.

To enter, download the Waterfall Season App in the Apple App Store or Google Play store.
