The Municipality of the County of Antigonish approved its new budget for 2023-2024 last week.

The budget is set at $19,200,000 for municipal operations and $8,500,000 of capital budget. Warden Owen McCarron was pleased to announce that the budget came with no increase to residential, commercial, or sewer tax rates.

“County Council is proud of this year’s budget,” said McCarron.

The significant capital budget will be used in part on the construction of Antigonish’s new active transportation corridor, which will help residents get around in healthy and eco-friendly way.

Education and protective services are among the areas seeing the most investment, after capital infrastructure. These areas are provincially mandated responsibilities and County Council does not set their amounts.

Education s receiving $4,263,486 while protective services, which encompasses police and fire services, are receiving $4,102,442.
