Saint John bans outside burning until further notice

By Brad Perry Jun 1, 2023 | 11:00 AM

All outside burning is now prohibited within the City of Saint John, officials announced Thursday.

The move comes amid a high fire hazard and extremely dry conditions throughout New Brunswick.

A no-burn advisory has been in place across the province for the past several days.

However, municipalities typically set their own burning parameters and regulations.

“Given the current risk environment, the City has made the decision that it is vitally important that our residents (including campground operators) follow the guidance and restrictions provided by the Province of New Brunswick,” said the release from the city.

“Sources like backyard fire pits, fireworks, cigarette ends, unattended barbecues and burning debris in your yard are all risks and are prohibited at this time.”

You can still use propane barbeques and other certified heating devices outside.

The ban on outside burning within city limits will remain in place until further notice.
