A man is dead after being shot by police in Dartmouth.

It happened at about 9 a.m. around a softball field near MicMac Boulevard and Woodland Avenue.

Police were called to a report of a man with a weapon and while trying to arrest him, he came at them and officers opened fire.

He was taken to hospital where he later died.

The matter is now in the hands of the agency that investigates serious incidents involving police known as SIRT.
