Will the Town of Yarmouth allow ATV’s on Water Street?

Council hosted a public hearing on a new by-law that’s set to permit off-highway vehicles to access the street.

It would let the drivers to connect between two trails, Mayor Pam Mood says it would be great for tourism.

She adds council wanted to make sure all ideas are on the table.

“We got some great ideas, and we’re looking forward to going through all of them. We need to put them with the provincial regulations, and then we’ll come out with an answer,” said Mood.

There were concerns from the crowd about policing the new by-law and speeding.

Mood says they want to reward responsible users.

“And allowing them to do what they’d like to do in accessing the trails. RCMP will police this in town, and would manage the few ‘bad apples’ in the best way possible.”

Staff will continue to develop the by-law, then it will go to council for first reading.
