Coffee fundraiser to help support survivors of domestic violence

By Tara Clow May 25, 2023 | 2:41 PM

Shelter Movers is teaming up with a local coffee shop to raise much-needed funds.

The organization helps victims of domestic violence in the Greater Moncton region.

Epoch Chemistry Coffee House is hosting a coffee-tasting experience, this Saturday, May 27 from 9 am to 11 am. All proceeds are going to Shelter Movers Greater Moncton. The experienced guides will take you through the steps of brewing, tasting, and understanding the region’s unique coffee flavours and aromas, and they’ll also teach you how to
replicate these impressive drinks, leaving you feeling like a coffee connoisseur.

All proceeds will go to support survivors of abuse in Greater Moncton.

Chapter Director Renée Charron says it costs around $250  on average to move a client.

“We officially launched in Greater Moncton in January 2023, and Shelter Movers has now completed about 40 moves. So, that’s on average, a move every three days. There’s definitely a demand for services here,” Charron says.

This event is open to the public. Tickets are $40 per person and must be purchased in advance via their Facebook page.

“That money goes to our storage costs, where victims keep their belongings while they’re staying in the shelter. It goes to the truck rental, and the training of volunteers to make sure that we’re transporting belongings safely and securely. It also goes towards the gas costs for those trucks and vehicles during the move,” Charron adds.

New Brunswick only has one chapter of Shelter Movers so far, and it is based in Greater Moncton, but Charron says they have helped with moves in Miramichi, Shediac, and Sackville as well. She says they try to make sure their services are available to every survivor who may need them.

They have six other locations in Canada and will soon launch in Calgary and Edmonton as well.

Volunteers are always needed for the Shelter Movers team.
