The City of Kenora is looking at options for attracting more development.

Mayor Andrew Poirier says they are some things they can’t do under provincial legislation, but administration has been directed to bring some options forward to council.

“It would be another tool in our tool box to look at if there other things we can do to enhance a project or make it  go forward,” explains Poirier.

“What that would be? We’ll wait and see what they (administration) comes back with ideas.”

Poirier adds that they do have to abide by provincial legislation on what is and what isn’t allowed.

“I mean we still have to fall within the lines of the law, because bonusing is a very serious thing.  If there are certain things we can do that are to the benefit to the municipality at some point, there is a business case we have a business case we can justify something.  But it has to meet other criteria.”

The city is considering drafting a Development Contribution by-law.
