The Kenora Golf and Country Club is doing it’s first renovations in 20 years.

The golf course has been promised almost $500,000 from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund.

Club pro Jennifer Hollins says part of the money will be used to enhance not only their fairways, but the clubhouse as well.

“Awesome to see some extra money to be able to put into the golf course, as well as the building to make it a little more accessible for everyone to come out,” says Hollins after the funding announcement on Wednesday.

“They are looking at expanding the front deck to have it wrap around the front of the building so it will overlook the lake.  As well as some paving around the clubhouse and the parking lots, so it will be a nice feature to pull in and have a nice crisp new look.”

Hollins says part of the funding will be used to install an automated sprinkler system in the fall.

The Kenora Golf and Country Club will have to contribute around $170,000 for the projects.

Hollins adds this is the 100th anniversary of the golf club and they have special events every month to celebrate as well as a special weekend of festivities at the end of July.
