Greater Moncton tourism close to normal in 2022

By Allan Dearing May 24, 2023 | 6:26 AM

Tourism has almost returned to pre-pandemic levels in Greater Moncton according to the region’s destination marketing organization.

In a report delivered to Moncton Council during a Committee of the Whole meeting, Destination Moncton-Dieppe said visitor spending in 2022 expanded by 73 percent or $565 million.

In other words, over $1.5 million was spent every day by visitors in Moncton and Dieppe.

Those figures meant the region was at 97 percent of 2019 visitor spending levels last year.

Destination Moncton-Dieppe was established as a new entity to promote regional tourism in 2021 and is funded through a levy on hotel rooms in both cities.

Riverview is not included since it has no hotels.

In December, the organization partnered with Tourism New Brunswick during the World Juniors to increase the region’s visibility and what it has to offer on a world stage.
