Due to ongoing maintenance, the Confederation Bridge will be closed to traffic during an overnight this weekend.

In a media release, Strait Crossing Bridge Limited said the bridge will be closed from Saturday at 10 p.m. until Sunday at 6 a.m. except for emergency vehicles.

Officials said the closure is necessary in order for crews to pour concrete for the replacement of an expansion joint.

“We are pleased to report that work which began on April 24 is progressing as planned. We are now tentatively scheduling the second and final full closure for Saturday June 3 also from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. and with the work zone ending on June 16,” noted Deputy General Manager Alexis Reynaud.

RCMP will be making their presence known in the area.

“We will be conducting patrols during the full closure and we remind travellers to plan ahead and avoid disappointment this coming Saturday night,” said RCMP Staff Sergeant Neil Logan.
