Are you getting married but don’t want a big wedding?

There is a new option in town for small ceremonies and even elopements.

Happily Hitched is located in downtown Halifax and officially opened last Friday.

Owner Ashley Groves says weddings on the East Coast typically range from $20,000 to $50,000.

“It’s a lot of money for people to spend on one day. So, with that comes a lot of expectation, right? You want everything to be perfect and then there’s the expectations of everyone else. As much as people go into it with the intention to just do everything they want, there comes this feeling of obligation to make it enjoyable for other people.”

Hitched offers weddings for much less.

The $1,500 option is called Elopement. The ceremony lasts 45 minutes and you can have up to two witnesses with you, but no other guests. The largest package is $3500. It allows a maximum of 20 guests. All options come with a Justice of the Peace, photography, champagne, cake and or cupcakes.

Ceremony’s range from 45 minutes to 90 minutes, max.

Groves says her venue is a great way to ease the stress of planning and save some cash. It even livestreams for anyone who can’t make it.

Happily Hitched is on Blowers Street and welcomes all who want to get married.

“The biggest thing about the space is that I consciously try to make sure that folks know that it is a safe, inclusive, space to celebrate all love,” she stated. “It’s an awkward feeling for people to have to ask those questions. And as much as it should be implied that it is a safe space, it’s not always (in the wedding industry), and so I want people to know that.”
