More fire fighters and support staff are being loaned to Alberta where the province struggles to get a handle on the nearly seven dozen wildfires in that province.

With just two active forest fires in Northwestern Ontario, and the entire province for that matter, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry is deploying more personnel to assist Alberta as it battles wild fires in the western and northern portions of the province.

A total of 110 personnel including 79 fire rangers are now in Alberta or en route.

Currently in Ontario conditions have remained relatively wet, especially here in the northwest, with a low to moderate hazard and a small zone marked as high hazard in the Ear Falls area.

There is just one new fire in the region, this time in the Red Lake District, the first of the season in that area reported on the evening of May 9th.

Its listed at 0.1 hectares, and joins Kenora 5, which has been burning since May 6th.
