The future of Sunny Cove camp could be determined at tonight’s meeting of Fort Frances town council.

Administration wants council to make a decision on the camp.

It had had two reports before them to which council has offered some direction.

Administration is looking for some final decision and offers two options – sell it, or keep it and begin seeking out funding for necessary repairs.

A report says there has been some interest by a couple of entities in the camp.

“Given some of the entities in the Town that have expressed interest in the property, the disposition of the property should be done in a way to not try to garner, necessarily the most funds, but to focus on the future use of the property and its alignment with the history of the property,” states the report.

Administration notes there is a “tremendous back of capital works,” and the list will grow longer the longer the camp sits idle.

The town took over the camp in a deal with the Fort Frances Kiwanis Club in 2009.

The Emo-Devlin United Church Group had planned to take over but later backed out, stating the job was beyond its capability.

The camp has sat idle since 2019.
