New Brunswick has released details on the projects selected for support under the Climate Change Fund.

A total of $47 million was committed through the fund in the 2023-24 provincial budget unveiled in March.

On Friday, the province announced that 73 projects worth $57 million had been approved for this fiscal year.

“The department expects under-expenditures over the course of the year will permit the projects to be accomplished for the $47 million budgeted,” the Department of Environment said in a news release.

Around $23 million will be spent on clean energy and energy efficiency initiatives, while $14 million will support resilient infrastructure that can withstand future climate events.

More than $10 million will go toward transportation such as increasing the number of electric vehicles on the road and associated charging infrastructure.

Other projects will support climate-smart agriculture and waste; climate preparedness and resiliency; nature-based solutions and biodiversity; economic opportunities in the low-carbon economy; and climate change education.

Environment Minister Gary Crossman said many of the projects will help the province make progress on items in its recent five-year climate change action plan unveiled in September.
