Hit & run, arrests made after car show

By Allan Dearing May 5, 2023 | 6:22 AM

Codiac RCMP said some attendees of a recent custom car show at the Moncton Coliseum got carried away in the parking lot.

Superintendent Ben Jolette told Moncton City Council this week that many vehicles were revving engines and doing burnouts and the activity later spread to other areas including Caledonia Industrial Park.

Jolette said police were not aware of the event until officers were called to the scene.

He added better communication is needed between police and the city and he planned to talk further with the city manager about event schedules.

Jolette said officers arrested three individuals for impaired driving and a collision with a pedestrian ended up being a hit and run incident.

He understands how things can happen during an event like this.

“People will get excited, they want to have fun and they want to see their friends. They want to show off their own vehicles after seeing modified vehicles inside.”

He didn’t mention if charges will be laid in the alleged hit and run.
