Legion Park in Fort Frances is poised to have some new playground equipment.

Administration is recommending council accept a proposal from Brantford-based New World Park Solutions, costing nearly $150 thousand.

Interim Chief Administrative Officer, Travis Rob, says it had the highest bid but was the most unique.

“I really like the designs. I think they look really good. And for me, the big thing is they’re different. It’s not like any other park in town. It will be a unique site,” says Rob.

The vendors were asked to submit three designs with the proposals.

Rob says the Make a Big Splash Spray Park Advisory Committee favoured one featuring a very large pirate ship. There is a rope bridge connecting to a small island.

Separate from the ship will be a smaller play structure for younger-aged children.

Councillor Mike Behan, who sits on the advisory committee, also supports the uniqueness of the proposal presented.

“A lot of these other companies had done other work in the district, so it would be sort of similar looking. We want this park to be the centrepiece of our community,” says Behan.

The funding is coming from the Advisory Committee’s fundraising efforts.

Councillor John McTaggart is appreciative of the support received.

“Awesome effort from the committee and a great response from the greater community. And it’s not just in town. It’s people in the area district. It’s very much appreciated,” says McTaggart.

Council must still sign off on the purchase at their meeting next week.
