A member of the St.FX men’s football team had his dreams come true last night when he picked in the 2023 CFL drat.

Alexander Fedchun was selected 55th overall by the Ottawa Red Blacks.

The 6’4 defensive lineman from Calgary had an impressive season for the X-Men, totaling 38 tackles and 9 sacks to lead the team in both categories. He also forced a fumble and made an interception as he helped led his team all the way to the USports national semi final game. Fedchun’s 14.5 tackles for a loss were the most by any player in the AUS.

His impressive season paired with a strong performance at the CL combine gave Ottawa the confidence to select him with one of their 10 picks.

Fedchun’s first game with the Red Blacks will be on May 26, as he fights to secure his place on the roster throughout the pre-season.

The CFL regular season kicks-off on June 8th.
