Registration is now open for the District 1B Senior Summer Games.

They will take place on May 10-18 at the Fort Frances Senior Centre.

Chair Cynthia Woodland says there are a number of competitions those 55 and over can take part in.

“We have card games, tennis, pickleball, darts, billiards, and it’s not something new, but it’s new to this area, prediction walking, running and swimming. Basically, you have a distance that the games have picked, predict how long it will take you, and then your difference is marked, recorded, and then compare it to people in your age group,” says Woodland.

Woodland says top finishers can advance to the provincials in Brantford.

“There are some events that are already open – you can go regardless. There are other events that you have to place, and hopefully, our district can help with some of the funding. We had one participant, Les Baker, who went down for billiards last year. That was pretty exciting.”

District 1B takes in the entire Rainy River District and Nestor Falls.

Those interested must sign up by May 8 by calling the Centre.

There is a small fee of $15 to participate.

There is a banquet that will cost an additional $10.
