Embrace the dandelions for the month of May

By Tara Clow May 2, 2023 | 12:04 PM

There’s lots of love for the dandelions this month.

It’s No Mow May.

The Tri-Communities are encouraging homeowners to embrace the bees.

Certain green spaces have been chosen and will not be mowed this month.

In Moncton, areas including the Killam Drive traffic circle, the entrance to Irishtown Nature Park (parking lot 2), Mapleton Park (Gorge Road entrance), common areas at the CN Sportplexe and Hal Betts Sportsplex, and the City’s Operations Centre will not be mowed.   Signs will be installed at these locations about the campaign.

In Dieppe, the City will be suspending the requirement to limit grass height to under 20 cm and will not be mowing the grass at City Hall and Place 1604 and along Dieppe Boulevard from May 1 to 31, 2023.

Select areas in the Town of Riverview have also been chosen, where the grass will not be cut during the month of May.

This provides habitat and food for hungry pollinators waking up from their winter hibernation.

Residents may do the same with their lawns.   You can wait until next month for the first cut, or you may choose a patch to leave long.
