Sports Centre prepares for summer

The Memorial Sports Centre is preparing for its summer season.

The MSC’s Recreator was published a couple of weeks ago and is now available to the public.

It outlines available programming.

Recreation and Culture Manager Tyler Young says summer camps are back.

“(The) last check this morning, I checked camp, and we are about 75% capacity with registration. I expect that will fill up,” says Young.

Young says they will have waitlists, and if they have additional staff to do so, more young people will be added.

COVID and staffing shortages impacted the camps the last three summers.

Other programming continues to be impacted by a lack of staff.

Swim lessons remained paused, and yoga is without an instructor.

Young is working to remedy that.

“I’m currently engaged with a couple of yoga providers in the community who are interested in potentially coming on board to help us, not just recoup the yoga we’ve lost, but to dramatically expand the yoga offerings to individuals in the community,” says Young.

Young also hopes to have a couple of junior lifeguards come on staff in June.
