Fundraiser to benefit Kids Help Phone

By Allan Dearing May 1, 2023 | 6:18 AM

Demand for services from the Kids Help Phone has grown tremendously since the pandemic with interactions more than doubling in the last three years.

Over that time, Kids Help Phone has supported children in Canada 14.7 million times, averaging to more than 10,000 times per day.

Moncton is among the 17 cities across the country hosting a ‘BMO Walk So Kids Can Talk’ on Sunday, May 7.

Volunteer Brent Wheeler said the family-friendly 5K event is designed to raise funds and awareness.

“We want to rally support for youth mental health from coast to coast to coast. Together we can unlock the hope that young people need to thrive in their world.”

Wheeler noted young people are reaching out about many issues especially anxiety and stress, relationships, depression and suicide.

He added the site has changed a few times and this year the event will be held at
Riverfront Park.

Registration begins at 10 a.m. and the walk will start at 11 a.m.

The Moncton goal is to raise $10,000.

Kids Help Phone’s e-mental health services are available 24/7 across Canada, by calling toll-free at 1-800-668-6868 or text 686868 or visit kidshelpphone.ca
