A successful Earth Day in Yarmouth.
Over 15-thousand pounds of garbage was removed from the entire county.
Angela Riley with Scotian Shores says many took part.
“Hundreds of volunteers and multiple beach clean-ups, and we had lots of individual clean-ups from around the county. It was a great weekend,” said Riley.
A clean-up of Chebogue Point produced about half the weight from last year.
Riley says the shoreline there has completely changed over the last two years because of the pick-ups.
About 500 people dropped off bags of garbage at the Mariners Centre event Saturday.
“The bouncy castles were a huge hit for the kids, and the trash-art competition had way more entries than we thought. The kids had fun crafting with the different marine debris that we find.”
She says some of the art will be re-purposed.
