A garage has been extensively damaged by fire on Ritchie Road in Upper Coverdale but firefighters were able to save the nearby home from damage.

Riverview Fire and Rescue responded to the call around 7:10 p.m. Saturday and upon arrival firefighters found a fire in a three-bay detached residential garage.

Fire Chief Robin True said the fire was brought under control in about twenty minutes although crews remained on scene for about 90 minutes.

True said there was extensive damage to the garage and its contents.

No one was hurt.

True noted the cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Moncton and Salisbury Fire Departments were called in to provide assistance.
