The Yarmouth Mariners are one win away from the MHL Cup.
They beat the Blizzard 3-2 in overtime in Game 3 of the finals last night in Edmundston, to take a commanding 3-0 series lead.
Reid Vos scored the game-winner 1:02 of the extra-frame, Tamy Ettaqi opened the scoring and Reilly Mayne had a goal in the second period.
Speaking with MC Media’s Geoff McGray, Vos said Mayne had a big hand in the overtime winner.
“He got the puck toward the blue-line, made a good play by taking a hit and got me the puck. I tried to fend off the defender and just get the puck through this legs. Luckily, it worked out,” Vos reflected.
Joey Lovullo was solid in net, making 26 saves.
Head Coach and GM Laurie Barron said there was a sense of urgency.
“We said we wanted to push, we don’t want to re-treat, we want to push. Reid Vos found a way, and the rest is history. We’re not there yet, the fourth win is the toughest one,” Barron said.
The Mariners can clinch their third league title in their 20-year history in Game 4 tonight.
It’s being shown on the big-screen in Arena 1 at Mariners Centre.
