Grab your trash bags.
Yarmouth’s second annual Earth Weekend Community Clean-up is this weekend.
Last year, hundreds helped remove more than 20,000 pounds of trash and debris from roadsides and beaches in Yarmouth County.
Angela Riley with Scotian Shores says they’ve had lots of support.
“The fishing industry and different partners have sponsored the event, so we’ll have two bouncy castles at Mariners Centre this year instead of one. The Town and Municipality of Yarmouth have been very supportive as well,” said Riley.
The big event is Saturday at Mariners Centre from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m, where there will be bouncy castles and a BBQ.
Admission is one bag of trash from the ditches of Yarmouth County.
“Just bring a bag of trash from a cleaned-up area that means most to you. We hope to see lots of smiling faces out.”
On Sunday, a family friendly beach clean-up at Pembroke Cove from 9 a.m. to noon.
Later, an ‘X-Treme clean’ will take place in Chebogue Point, where lobster trap removals are expected.
Riley says they removed 300 lobster traps from the area last year.
