One goal, one minute in and a 1-0 series lead.

That’s how the Mariners got it done, as Reid Vos scored 1:10 into the first, and Joey Lovullo made 37 saves as Yarmouth beat Edmundston 1-0 in Game 1 of the MHL Cup final.

A near sold-out crowd watched as the Mariners goaltender made incredible saves through the night, and survived an injury scare in the third period.

Lovullo thanked his teammates after the game.

“I mean, it was team effort. The boys played great, and were excellent defensively. They played great and had my back when I needed them most. (The injury) hurts for sure, but I’m good. I’ll battle and I’ll be good,” said Lovullo.

The Blizzard out-shot Yarmouth 37-24.

Ryan Semple and Jerome Gilbert picked up the assists on the goal, as Yarmouth continued their perfect playoff run, improving to 9-0.

The Mariners thought they scored another one shortly after Vos’ goal, but the referee determined the puck didn’t fully cross the goal line.

Game 2 goes tonight at Mariners Centre.

The series will shift to Edmundston for Games 3, 4 and potentially 5 starting Thursday.
