Advance voting begins for N.B. byelections

Some New Brunswickers may spend part of their weekend casting a ballot.

Advance polling begins Saturday for April 24 provincial byelections in three ridings.

They include Bathurst East-Nepisiguit-Saint-Isidore, Dieppe and Restigouche-Chaleur.

Polls will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, April 15, and again on Monday, April 17.

People are being encouraged to bring their voter information card with them to speed up the process.

Voters can also cast a ballot at the returning office in each electoral district. They are open Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

If a person is unable to leave their home because of illness or incapacity, Elections NB can arrange to have a special ballot to that individual and their caregiver.

A total of 11 candidates put their names forward for the three vacant legislature seats by last Saturday’s nomination deadline.

More details about who is running in each riding can be found on Elections NB’s website.

Currently, the Progressive Conservatives hold 29 seats in the legislature, the Liberals hold 13 seats, the Greens hold three seats, one seat is independent, and three seats are vacant.
